Ranji Trophy 2025:
From the moment Tamil Nadu allowed Jharkhand to recover from 157/6 on Day 1 and post a formidable 419—thanks to a composed knock by Ishan Kishan—the result felt inevitable.
A little over an hour after lunch on Day 4, Anukul Roy trapped Sandeep Warrier lbw, and Jharkhand’s celebrations told the story. This was their third win over Tamil Nadu in Ranji Trophy history—all three coming in as many meetings, including twice in consecutive seasons. But Saturday’s victory in Coimbatore was the most dominant of the lot.
Jharkhand secured an innings-and-114-run win, pocketing seven points. With B Sachin absent due to illness and the ninth wicket falling, the outcome looked less like an upset and more like a foregone conclusion.

Ranji Trophy 2025: From the moment Tamil Nadu allowed Jharkhand to climb from 157/6 on Day 1 to a total of 419—courtesy of a composed innings from Ishan Kishan—the result began to feel inevitable. Kishan, the only India international in the match and someone currently overlooked by the national selectors, was enough to derail TN’s plans. What followed was a batting collapse at the first sign of pressure: bowled out for 93 in the first innings and repeating the same mistakes in the second without any real adjustments.
C Andre Siddarth, one of Tamil Nadu’s most promising young batters, was the lone exception. Abandoning his natural attacking style, he battled for 180 balls to score 80. Yet his dismissal—bowled while attempting a slog-sweep against left-arm spinner Anukul Roy—captured the essence of TN’s flawed batting effort in this match.

Ranji Trophy 2025: “My game plan was very straightforward today,” Siddarth said. “I just wanted to bat through the day, which unfortunately I couldn’t. Yes, I got 80, but the goal was to take the innings deep and at least make them field the whole day. They made us stand out there for one-and-a-half days and made our fat bowlers toil. Their bowlers bowled well but didn’t always get the wickets, and as a batting unit we should have backed them better. At the very least, I felt I should have done more for the bowlers.”
